Each of the 13 accredited Anesthesiologist Assistant training programs awards a Master's degree. Programs have a matriculation period ranging from 24-28 months with curriculum that progresses from graduate level science courses in Anatomy, Physiology, and Biochemistry to Anesthesia-specific courses in Patient Monitoring Systems, Physics, Pharmacology. In addition, graduates will have completed over 2000 clinical hours in the operating room upon graduation from their program.
The National Commission for the Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistants (NCCAA) is the organization charged with the development and administration of both the initial certification exam and the subsequent demonstration of continuing qualification exams. The NCCAA is also responsible for validation of the continuing medical education hours required to maintain certification. The NCCAA website can be found HERE.
